“Tsukiji Fish Market” is located in a center of Tokyo. It’s the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world which deals with over 2,000 t seafood products everyday!! Firstly, the market is well known for the tuna auctions held in the wholesale market. The viewers of the auction is limited up to 120 people everyday on first-come-first-served basis. The registration for the auction starts at 5 am every morning. However, registrations tend to get full right after 5 am as many start queueing from 3–4 am. The auction has first (5:25 to 5:50 am) and second part 5:50 to 6:15.
Even if you can’t make it to the auction, The wholesale Market Area is open partly for public from 9 am if you want to see around. However, if you wish to so sightseeing inside the market, watch out for few things!! Reportedly, there have been troubles between workers and tourists in past, especially in the passage are where turret trucks run. Another case, tourists can disturb workers. Remember, they are on their duties.
Outside of the wholesale market, there is “Outer Market of Tsukiji” which is full of small food stalls and restaurants where you can taste the most delicious seafood. This is more preferable for tourists. The shops and restaurants at Outer Market is open all day long and mostly everyday.
Do not miss a chance to visit Tsukiji Fish Market while it’s still there since the market is planned to move to Toyosu in November 2016.
