Kawagoe Festival, is the highlight of Ko-Edo Kawagoe City in October

Kawagoe festival with 360 years of history, one of the leading small Edo Kawagoe is a tourist destination Kanto is the most crowded day of the year.

Kawagoe City is situated in the south of the Kanto Region, in southwestern Saitama Prefecture, and has a population of approx. 340,000.

This city flourished as the castle town of the Kawagoe Domain during the Edo Period, and is also known as ‘Ko edo’ (‘Little Edo’). Having escaped destruction during the war, a large number of historical buildings, temples and shrines are preserved here, and the city’s major sightseeing spots attract around 6.2 million visitors each year.

Held for two days on the 3rd Saturday and Sunday of October, the Kawagoe Festival is Koedo-Kawagoe ’s liveliest event of the year. Famed for its Kurazukuri (traditional architecture) zone, this city is one of the Kanto Region’s foremost sightseeing spots, and it attracts large numbers of visitors each year.

Kawagoe Festival (Kawagoe Hikawa Festival Float Event) takes root in the “Reitaisai” festival held at Hikawa Shrine on October 14, and is also consisted of the “Jinkosai” festival and “Float Event (festival)” that are held immediately afterward.

It has been designated as an important intangible folk cultural heritage of the country.
