Okinawa prefecture is the southernmost prefecture of Japan, it consisting of 49 inhabited islands and 111 uninhabited islands.

Miyako Islands and Yaeyama Islands are the most popular for Japanese travelers.

*Aka-gawara, or red earthenware roof tiles, are one of the first and most striking features of both traditional Ryukyuan as well as present-day Okinawan architecture. 

This falls is on the Pinai River, which flows into Funaura Bay in northern Iriomote Island. The Pinai of Pinaisara means Hige (beard) and Sara means “something hanging down.” The falls look like a white beard hanging down, thus the name. With a 55-meter drop, this is Okinawa’s highest falls.

Minsa is a type of traditional Okinawan textile that developed about 400 years ago. It was during this time that Okinawa started to produce cotton, which they dyed with indigo to produce Minsa.

 A traditional Minsa pattern consists of four and five small rectangles. These rectangles symbolize forever love.The women of Yaeyama have woven Minsa textiles for their beloved prospective husbands as an engagement gift. 

Today that same technique is being used to produce bags, neckties, interior accessories and other items, which are all displayed and sold here. 

The main factory of awamori Taragawa continues to keep its genuine flavor and maximum strength produced by man and nature. The program offers a learning opportunity in the”manufacturing process of awamori” and “Taragawa style”.
