Japan’s wintertime illumination has arrived in Bangkok, Thailand

This year, Bangkok has its own holiday illumination event, the Thailand Illumination Festival 2017. From now until 6 January 2018, starting at 6 pm each evening, 39 rai (62,400 sqm) of land on Ratchadapisek Road will be lit up with over one million LED lights. Inspired by the original illumination fests in Japan, the lights take the shape of animals, tunnels, a Christmas tree, geometric figures and more.

Visitors can enjoy “The King of Our Heart” exhibition, featuring an impressive light-and-sound display presenting the royal compositions of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. They can also play games for charities such as Chaipattana Foundation and Siriraj Foundation, and tasty street food from over 30 restaurants. There is also a music performance nightly.

On New Year’s Eve, the venue will host a countdown amid the spectacular illuminated garden, with a mini-concert by Atom Chanakan, the Sincharoen Brothers and Jennifer Kim.

The Thailand Illumination Festival 2017 is open to the public with free admission from 5th December 2017 to 6th January 2018. From Monday to Thursday, the event is open between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. From Friday to Sunday, the event is open between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

The exhibition is located on Ratchadapisek Soi 8 (opposite the Esplanade shopping center on Ratchadapisek Road) in Bangkok
