The Kiso Valley is a geographical area that centers on the valley of the upper portions of the Kiso River in the southwestern part of Nagano Prefecture in Japan. It is a v-shaped valley with length of approximately 60 km (36 mi) that follows the river as it flows from north by northwest to south by southwest into Gifu Prefecture.

Nagano is surrounded by mountains, and especially Kiso is located in deep center of Nagano. You can find great nature and villages in Kiso because it has not changed for a long time. Due to the special location of Kiso, they remains great nature until now.
2. It has a lots of “Onsen” hot spring.
Kiso is located near by Mount Ontake, the second highest volcano in Japan (after Mount Fuji) at 3,067 m (10,062 ft). That is why Kiso hasa great hot spring in it. There are more than 20 hot springs, and most of them are loved by Onsen lovers in Japan.
3. It has great historical spots “Nakasendo”
The Nakasendo (“path through mountains”) was one of the two means of transportation between Edo and Kyoto. Along the Kiso Valley, a few post towns, particularly Magome, Tsumago and Narai, have been preserved to look as they did when they served travelers of the Nakasendo. Visitors are able to enjoy the stone paths and wooden buildings of a bygone era.
