LA’s best outdoor brunch spots for Mother's Day

Find the perfect venue with a view to celebrate your best girl on this special day.

The weatherman says it’s going to be a gorgeous day this Mother’s Day, 13 May, in Los Angeles so why not treat your dear ol’ mom to brunch? Each of these fine restaurants has an outdoor patio where she can show off the new sun hat you bought her while indulging in mimosas and gourmet food. Reservations are recommended.

Dominick’s in West Hollywood, a legendary Rat Pack hangout, brings a bit of New York to LA. Its brick patio, surrounded by fruit trees and an herb garden, evokes a breezy Gotham rooftop. Make your own mimosas at the table with a $12 bottle of sparkling wine and $5 carafe of fresh orange juice. Tasty a la carte Italian brunch fare is available from 10 am to 3 pm on Sundays, like fresh blueberry pancakes, eggs poached with roasted mushrooms, or ricotta fritters with huckleberry compote and creme fraiche.

Asia de Cuba  at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood is one of LA’s hottest restaurants –making it the spot to take your hip, chic mom for brunch (11 am to 4 pm). After a designer shopping spree at the nearby Beverly Center mall, relax under a trellis of bougainvillea vines while enjoying the sprawling views south of Sunset Strip and partaking of the bottomless mimosas, mojitos and bloody marys, which are included in the special Mother’s Day $42 three-course prix fixe menu. Or fill up on a la carte brunch entrees like eggs benedict or the “Classic  Cubano” sandwich with roast pork loin and ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, mayo and pickles.

Sunny Spot in Venice kicks off its new brunch menu (available on Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm) on Mother’s Day. With its shabby-chic decor of whimsical floral prints, gold place settings and bright blue patio chairs, it’s the perfect girly venue to celebrate your best girl. Share tropical-inspired dishes like banana French toast served in a cast iron skillet with rum coconut whipped cream or a salt cod brandade benedict with coconut hollandaise and a cherry tomato vinaigrette. Take in the ocean breeze while sipping on a pina colada made with Antigua rum, pineapple and ginger coconut sorbet or try the savoury bloody mary with vodka, olive juice, tomato, Jamaican jerk spice and celery.

Whist at Viceroy Santa Monica, once named one of America’s best hotel restaurants by Food & Wine magazine, will feature a farmer’s market brunch buffet ($55 per person) from 10 am to 2:30 pm on this special day, complete with a chef’s carving station, an omelette station and a pancake and French toast station. The glamorous patio with its cabana seating is located just steps from the Santa Monica Pier, perfect for walking off the bottomless mimosas and bloody marys (an additional $10).
