Our Trip From Asahikawa to Shiretoko-Shari

Khadeejah Hasmad

We opted to take Limited Express Okhotsk to Abashiri from Asahikawa.

Then, at Abashiri, take another train to Shiretoko-Shari.

Total fare for 2 adults were 16,200 Yen

Our kids ride for free since they were all below 6 years old.

If you travel a lot, it’s actually good to buy either JR Hokkaido Pass or JR Pass.

It will be much cheaper.

We took unreserved seat because the reserved seat was fully booked.

Alhamdulillah the train was not full. We can easily took 4–8 seats at one time because not too many people in train.

The trip from Asahikawa to Abashiri took approximately 4 hours.

But the stunning beautiful view makes us feel it’s just like an hour ride.

Of course our 3 kids kept us busy at the same time.

Mind you, pack some foods with you if you bring kids or if you gets hungry easily.

It’s because there was no food on sale on the train.

Let me share some of the view from our train.

Arriving at Abashiri, the snow was very thick and it was snowing lightly.

Alhamdulillah there was a little shop in the station where we can buy bento and have lunch.

Bento 🍱

The taste was good.

We waited for nearly 1 hour for train to Shiretoko-Shari, the train was bound for Kushiro.

The train track was heavily covered with snow.

We were amazed at how good the train can move with such condition while the passenger’s car were very warm.

Along the way, we were stunningly amazed by the view of Sea of Okhotsk and the drift ice.

Let me share you one of the pictures, but forgive me for the bad quality.

Above is the view from driver’s place.

I always love to see view from the front.
