The festival to pray for a good harvest has been held for 279 years. Over 200 bamboo poles with lanterns (each poles’ weight is up to 50 kg) are carried through the city. The carriers show off their skills with holding poles without using their hands by keeping it on their foreheads,shoulders,hips etc.

Hanagasa Matsuri @Yamagata

The cutest summer festival in Japan. Flower hats “Hanagasa” are Yamagata prefecture’s specialty products decorated with its icon flower “Benibana”(safflower). Approx 10,000 Dancers in bright and charming costumes holding Hanagasa hats go through the city as groups.

Very manly festival from Osaka. The wooden carts called ”Yarimawashi” are pulled by men in “Happi” costumes and they run through the neighbourhood. The person who is on top of the carts control the direction. It is considered as one of the most dangerous festivals in Japan. After the enthusiasm day part, the night part is held quietly with lantern parade.

A big dance festival in Shikoku region. Yosakoi dancers are dressed up in colourful and traditional uniforms and dance as groups. They carry “Naruko” sticks and go through the city. The festival is held for 4 days including a fire works ceremony on the first day.
