Three months ago, there was a strong earthquake in the Kyushu area, especially the prefectures of Kumamoto and Oita.

Oita is most famous for Onsens (hot springs), in Japan. As they say, “here is the Onsen capital!” I really like this video.

Kumamoto has recently become famous for Kumamon! Have you ever seen this bear? It is one of the most popular yaru-chara (costumed mascot character of the local area) in Japan.

These two prefectures are relatively dependant on the tourism industry. Therefore, having many people visit there is one of the most powerful ways of support for their reconstruction.

Actually it is said that many of the places in these prefectures can be visited without problem and be toured around.

In addition, the government decided to subsidize people travelling around Kyushu. It’s called ふっこう割 ( Fukko-wari). Thanks to this subsidy, we can travel in Kumamoto and Oita with as much of a discount as 70%. Also, other prefectures in Kyushu area — Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Miyazaki and Kagoshima can be travelled for as much as 50% off.

For example, Ibusuki in Kagoshima mention about it.
