Saitama Prefecture is known as a commuter town due to the closeness to the center of the capital. That is one of the most appealing points and some people say “What else in Saitama?” However, I’m going to share other reasons you should visit Saitama. There are a lot of resources for tourism.

Must Visit: Old City Kawagoe
The town of Kawagoe is historical and nostalgic one since it reserves the old castle town of the Edo period (19th century.) That’s the reason it is called COEDO which means Little Edo. You will feel as if you slipped back to hundreds years ago once you step your foot in there. In addition to that nostalgic atmosphere, they provide you with so many delicious foods and portable snacks.
Grilled rice ball is getting more famous in Kawagoe, and that’s why the tourists sometimes form a line for it. Grilled chicken (Yakitori) is also recommended because it’s freshly grilled here and accentuated by the special miso.
Both stores open on the main road.
If you want to have something cold in Summer season, I, the author, specially recommend 2 things: fresh grapefruit juice and cold cucumbers. You can directly drink grapefruit juice, and have the cucumbers cooled with ice and flavored with Japanese plums and bonitos.
As for souvenirs, you can pick up Japanese snacks. For Coedo is known for a variety of Japanese snacks. But there are 2 more must-check things: one is Shichimi Togarashi, a spicy powdered assortment
of dried chili peppers and other seasonings. The other is Japanese patterned glasses whose designs are exclusive for Japan.
They are sold on the Kashiya Yokocho Alley, a small backstreet where a lot of stores sell old-fashioned cheap snacks along the alley.

Should Visit: The Railway Museum
The Railway Museum was founded by JR East, a major railway company in Japan. There are the real trains which had actually run across Japan. You may feel overwhelmed by them. Moreover, you can experience driving simulation of the modern train and even the old steam train. It also has educational elements since even children can learn the principle, the efficient system and the advanced technologies.

If You Have Time: The Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel
The Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel was bored for disaster prevention, which streches for approximately 3.9 miles. Saitama Prefecture has some enormous rivers, so that discharge channel is needed in preperation for flooding. More foreign tourists visit here than Japanese do.
