Last week, we asked our Facebook community to help Eleni Anastasopoulos, who is travelling to Puerto Rico next month and is looking for suggestions on where to go. She said, “I love sightseeing and discovering hidden gems. Any information would be appreciated.”

From Maria Reines Ortiz: “Luquillo is a beautiful beach but the islands of Culebra and Vieques [also] have spectacular beaches. Old San Juan, a Spanish old town, is a must-see. El Yunque rain forest [has] a beautiful water cascade [in which] you can refresh after a long walk. Plaza Las Americas, shopping to buy everything you want. Eat rice and beans, mofongo, tostones, pastelillos, fresh fish and lobster, and drink piña coladas and piraguas. Hope you have fun in Puerto Rico.”
From Miryam L Palacio-Hoyos: “Must try the mofongo.”
From Jean Caruso Pembroke: “Check out Blessed Café, a great reggae bar in old San Juan. Nice area to walk around and pop in for food too.”
From Gerardo Pineiro: “Camuy caves. El Yunque, Old San Juan, Bioluminescent bay at Fajardo and Arecibo Observatory.”
From Stephanie March: “Spend a couple days at a B&B on the south side of El Yunque and while there make sure you drive to Fajardo and take a night kayak tour of the bioluminescent bay. There is a nice little restaurant across the street from the Seven Seas beach where you can eat before driving over for the kayak trip.”
From Connie Von Tobel: “Pamela’s is a wonderful restaurant right on the beach just outside old San Juan.”
From Amelia San José Fuente: “I suggest Isla Culebra and Isla de Vieques. Ponce is also interesting. Puerto Rico is not a big island. [Rent] a car and drive around it. Don’t miss the mountains either.”
From Susana Carrasco: “Old San Juan of course and you need to go to any of Culebra or Vieques islands. Try the tostones, the best mojitos and enjoy.”
From Domingo Delgado Ortiz: “As someone already mentioned, every town in Puerto Rico has its charm. However, a bit off the beaten path is la Cueva Ventana. Also, if you are into trekking try the San Cristóbal Canyon between Aibonito and Barranquitas.”
From Kat Russell: “Buy the Lonely Planet guidebook. It is the best. Be prepared for a very expensive trip.”
