Zuze the female Asian elephant of Kobe Oji Zoo gave birth to a boy on June 12, 2014 at Ichihara Elephant Kingdom. At this zoo in Chiba prefecture, she has been learning motherhood. Zuze abandoned her first two babies, born in 2004 and 2007, because Zuze herself was raised by human and didn't know how to take care of her baby. Both calves were suffering from brittle bone disease and died at a young age. The Oji Zoo thought if she could nurse her babies the disease wouldn't occur, and decided to send Zuze to Ichihara when her third pregnancy was confirmed. I hope Zuze will be able to nurse her third baby with the help from the experienced trainers at Ichihara Elephant Kingdom. The zoo has nine Asian elephants, including two young girls and their mother. Zuze has been living adjacent to the family since she arrived there in October 2013.
