Kōya (高野町?, Kōya-chō) is a town located on a plateau atop Mt. Koya in Ito District, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. The town is known as the headquarters of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism.As of October 1, 2016, the town has an estimated population of 3,279 and a density of 24 persons per km². The total area is 137.08 km².
