As of 2013, the village had an estimated population of 10,443 and a population density of 210 persons per km². The total area is 50.77 square kilometres (19.60 sq mi). Unlike other areas of Japan, Onna has been in an sustained period of population growth in the post-war period. In 1965 the population of the village was 8,471, and by 2003 had grown to over 10,000 residents.[2]
