From the penguin house where you can see penguins all around you from an underwater tunnel, to the polar bear tunnel where you can see the mighty polar bears swimming, there’s plenty to see. In June 2008, a massive Wolf Forest was opened, where you can see three Mackenzie Valley wolves. With the concept of the visitor quietly walking through the wolves’ forest, the attraction challenges our idea of what nature is. There is even a park, so families can enjoy a leisurely day here. For information on admission and which days the zoo is open, see the official web page.
NOTE:Head from Asahidake to Tenninkyo and you can see the beautiful canyon scenery of Tsubame Rock, Shichifuku Rock, Amatsu Rock and more. 15-30 minutes' walk from the hot spring village.
NOTE:Located to the southwest of Asahidake, the highest mountain in the Taisetsuzan Mountain Range, this hot spring is in a secluded spot near the 270m Hagoromo-no-Taki Waterfall.
spring qualities:Sulfate springs
An autumn leaf viewing spot
See Asahidake and the mysterious marshland spread out before your eyes. See alpine flowers in the summer and autumn leaves covering the mountains in autumn. The main attraction of the Taisetsu Mountain Range is Asahidake, the highest mountain in Hokkaido. Take one step out of Sugatami Station at the top of the Asahidake Ropeway and you’ll find yourself in a paradise above the clouds. Enjoy the sensation of being surrounded by nature.
