View from the bridge near Hozukyo station. It takes about two hours to go down the river from Kameoka to Saga, Kyoto. It is really thrilling. When I was a child, sailors whom I knew well put me on the boat for free.

Nowadays the train for sightseeing is running along the Hozu river. When I was a senior high student, steam locomotives were still running, by which I had to go to school every day. The view from the train was beautiful, it is true, but I felt disgusted at the black smoke the train emitted. I could not think I was blessed with the beautifu scenery until the trains except the trains for sightseeing no longer run on the railroad along the river. From the window of the train I could see the boats going down the Hozu rapids.
