Blue Lagoon, Iceland

This hot spring is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland, as well as one of the most renowned natural spas in the world. Situated approximately 38 km from Reykjavík, the silica, and sulfur-rich waters are known to help skin conditions such as psoriasis, and the temperatures range from around 36-39 C.

Pamukkale, Turkey

The springs at Pamukkale in Turkey are probably the most stunning of the naturally formed hot springs on this list.  It used as a spa since the Second Century BC, the name actually means “cotton castle” in Turkish. The pools are arranged into terraces that are made of travertine, which is a hardened sedimentary rock deposited by water from the hot springs, and temperatures range from around 35 – 100 C.

Australia Mataranka Hot Springs, Northern Territory

The sunburnt environment of the outback is generally not thought of as a place where hot springs flow, nevertheless there is one. These springs are located near the Mataranka Cabins and Camping site, which is itself a few hours’ drive south of Darwin.

Shirahone Hot Springs, Japan

The Shirahone or “white bone” hot spring is a small resort town lying in the Northern Japanese Alps. The springs get their name from the milky white water that lies within them, which is caused by deposits of magnesium and calcium sediment.

Saturnia, Italy 

These wild natural springs are the best known in Italy, taking their name from the Roman God, Saturn. Entry is free, and it is not as busy during the week. There are cascading waterfalls and glorious views to accompany this trip into relaxation.
