But do you know that this city also has some interesting places to visit, which is totally overlooked between these all high voltage drama.
Let me take you through few places in Nagpur:
1. Deeksha bhomi monastery
Situated in the heart of the city. Deeksha Bhoomi is a very important place for the Buddhists and attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world. This holy place is also home to one of the main stupas of the Buddhists.
2. Maharajah Baugh zoo
The Maharajah Baugh and Zoo of Nagpur were built by the rulers of Bhonsle dynasty, many years ago. This is a beautiful park which was later renovated into a botanical garden housing different birds and animals. Some of the birds of this zoo are very rare and cannot be found in any other zoo of the country.
3. Ambazari Lake
Ambazari Lake and garden has been developed especially for children to help play games. The lake is often considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes of the city, located towards the western border. Covering an area of nearly 15.4 km and has a garden built around it. The garden has walking tracks for people to take morning walks there.
4. Sitabuldi fort
The Sitabuldi fort is located atop a hill and was built by a British officer in 1857. At present, the fort is home to the office of the Territorial Army and is open for public visit during national holidays. A trough has been created around the fort for its protection. Inside the fort is a memorial in dedication to all the soldiers who have died in the war between the Marathas and the British.
5. Sewagram ashram
The Sewagram Ashram was founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1933. It is the same place where Gandhiji spent fifteen years of his life. In fact, the ashram was the headquarters for all the social services done by Gandhiji.
6. Balaji mandir
This temple is dedicated to Lord Balaji and is located in the Seminary Hills. The temple has the idol of Lord Kartikeya. The Balaji Mandir is quite popular among a lot of tourists who come here to take blessings of the God.
7. Shri Vyankatesh Mandir
Located on the Dharaskar Road in Itwari, the main idea behind the building of this temple was given by Swamiji Shri Dharacharyaji. The construction of the temple finally ended in 1968. The temple houses the idol of God Vyankatesh and is made of black stone along with decoration with gold ornaments. Besides, the temple also has three festival statues located just below the main one and are made of gold.
8. Sri Poddareshwar temple
Sri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir is one of the most important pieces of attraction other than Balaji Temple and is located on the Central Avenue Road in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This temple was built in 1923 and displays beautiful exterior and interior made of marble and sandstone. The main deities of this temple are the characters of Ramayana and hence, a popular place among the Hindus.
9. Sri Swaminarayan temple
The 750th Swaminarayan temple in India was inaugurated in the city on Monday 7th October 2013, amidst chanting of Vedic mantras and rituals that began two days before. Located in Wathoda near the Middle Ring Road, the temple is the largest among the over 1,000 temples that have been set up by Swaminarayan Sanstha across the world.
10. Dragon palace
One of the finest examples of superb architecture and scenic landscape, the Dragon Palace Temple is a Buddhist temple and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Nagpur. Situated in Kamptee, Nagpur district, the temple is about 20kms from Nagpur city, on the Nagpur –Jabalpur road and is considered as a landmark of Indo-Japan friendship as Madam Noriko Ogawa from Ogawa Society Japan financially contributed in the construction of this beautiful piece of architecture.
