If talking about traditional Japanese wear, You might known as Kimono. But in Japan, there has an informal summer kimono that call as ‘Yakata’, made from cotton or linen. If you have a plan to visit Japan, you should to take a change to wear Yukata, transform yourself to Japanese and walking around Japan.
And if you want to trying wear Yukata, you can rental it or buy it from many shops in Japan. If you wanna keep it as a worth souvenir, You can buy it in suitable price because Yukata is much cheaper than Kimono.
Let’s practice to wear the Yukata like a true Japanese!
● Hold both collar ends together in front and align the center seam at the back with the center of your backbone. While holding them in your hands, lift the Yukata off the floor to adjust the length.
● With both hands, hold the collar and open the bottom overlap on the right hand side. On the left hand side, with your right hipbone and slightly pull the right overlap are left around the hip.
● Open the left overlap, ensuring to keep the original width set in step 2. Raise the end of the edge of the right overlap about 7–8 cm.
● Layer the left overlap over the the right overlap. Bring both ends of the belt from the front to the back, cross and bring to the front, and tie.
● Put your hands into the opening under the sleeve on both sides, neatly pull down the extra folded fabric under neath the waist from the back to the front.
● Adjust the collar to be slope about 30°
● Place the center of the belt slightly below the chest. Bring both ends of the belt from the front to the back, cross, bring to the front and tie. Tuck any loose ends in between the wrapped belt.
Now, You can wear Japanese traditional Yukata by yourself. Wear it and Let’s walking around Japan!
