In fact, according to Japan travel site Japan-Guide.com ,those 10 prefectures were ranked as 10 least visited prefectures by foreigners in 2015. But this is not because they are boring! Explore those 10 hidden spots while they are still unknown to avoid crowds!

10. Yamaguchi

Far west-end of Japanese mainland(Honshu). Yamaguchi has so many ways to attract us with its historical sights (including old towns,castles and temples),great nature,beautiful beach and local specialties (puff fish is the most significant one!) The view of Tsunoshima bridge is one of the greatest view spot in Japan!

9. Tokushima

Tokushima prefecture is located in south-east Shikoku prefecture. The prefecture is best known for the Awa Odori, a dance festival held in August, the whirlpools of Naruto and the remote Iya Valley.

8. Ehime

Another prefecture from Shikoku. So like we know, this ranking seems pretty much depending on prefecture’s accessibility. Ehime is located in north-west Shikoku region with great Seto inland sea and one of the biggest karsts. The capital city Matsuyama is famous for one of the oldest onsen in Japan apparently the Dogo Onsen.

7. Shiga

Shiga prefecture is located in east of Kyoto. Lake Biwa is Japan’s great natural treasure as it’s the biggest lake and there is a small town close by the lake called Hikone where you can enjoy historical sights with a castle.

6. Shimane

Shimane is located in Chugoku region along the Sea of Japan and most famous for Izumo Shrine which is listed as one of the most important shrines in Japan. The capital city Matsue is known as “the water city” which is an authentic Japanese town with a magnificent castle, garden and Samurai district.

5. Tottori

Tottori is located in east side of Shimane prefecture and has a very uniquie nature sight. Japan’s largest sand dune which is over 30 km² (approx 14% of the prefecture). Tottori also has amazing beaches along the Sea of Japan.

4. Fukui

Fukui is located in Chubu region. Fukui was ranked as the city which has the highest level of happiness in Japan in 2014. Fukui is home to mighty castles and beautiful coast line by the Sea of Japan and beaches!

3. Saga

Saga is the smallest prefecture in Kyushu region. Saga is widely known for the pottery called Arita-Yaki from the small town called Arita with over 400 years history. Also very interesting event,the world balloon festival will be held in Saga in October 2016!

2. Ibaraki

Ibaraki is located in north-east of Tokyo in Kanto region. Ibaraki’s biggest attraction would be Hitachinaka Kaihin Park. The park is known for baby blue-eyes flowers blooming in spring and kochia and cosmos in autumn in 200 ha land. Also it’s quite little known but Ibaraki is a home to Japanese Biggest Buddha called Ushiku Buddha with 120 m high!!

1. Kochi

Kochi is located in south-west Shikoku region which has the great Shimanto river which is 196 km long and it’s the only undamed river in Japan.

Kochi is also known for the prefecture which consumes most amount of Sake in Japan! so if you are a Sake lover, Kochi must be the best place 🙂
