Introduction to a Blog

Chris Royer

I haven’t done a blog in what seems like forever, but I like many people have a huge story to tell and I thought that the beginning of a new year (2016) would be a good place to start.

My name is Chris, I’m currently a 28 year old American from Nebraska living in Fukuoka, Japan as a Kindergarten teacher. My hobbies include being happy, photography, programming (pixeling), traveling, animals, watching TV shows (dramas and comedies) and movies (I actually have a list of every movie I’ve ever seen), studying Japanese (particularly 漢字/kanji), geocaching, teaching, and I could go on… Happiness is pretty important to me, I’ve found myself to be one of the most content people I know and I feel pretty confident I know the best ways to be happy. I am currently cohabiting with my girlfriend (Japanese native), Nami of whom I have been with for the past year and a half. I have two pets, the first is my German Shepherd dog from high school whom I am separated from by the Pacific Ocean, Zelda and the other is Betta fish whom I bought last week because I miss having pets.

I have lived in 6 countries: USA (for ~24 years), Japan (for ~2 years), Spain (for 1 month), Thailand (for 7 months), New Zealand (for 6 months), and South Korea (for 1 year). As far as the US goes, I was born in Virgina where I remained until I was 3 years old, at which point my family moved to Nebraska (closer to Iowa where they are from) and younger sister by three years was born. As far as Japan is concerned, I have lived in 4 different cities in Japan and not all have been consecutive, I studied abroad for 3 months in Kawasaki in 2008, I visited some friends for 3 weeks in the summer of 2009, I interned abroad through my university (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) at a Junior High School in Matsudo back in 2010 for 5 months, and then four years later I moved back to Japan to Yamaguchi where I worked at an 英会話 (English Conversation School) for 11 months until I moved to Fukuoka to teach kindergarten again (having already taught kindergarten in Daegu, Korea) and be closer to my girlfriend.

And that brings it a wrap for my introduction I guess. We’ll see where I go with this blog next perhaps tomorrow?
