Day 5 – Minibus Sightseeing Tour of Gozo There is a saying that a vacation in Malta is not complete without paying the island of Gozo a visit (which is quite true IMO), so holding to that I booked a full day's organised sightseeing tour of Gozo for my fifth day in Malta; which coincidentally was also my fifth visit to Gozo since first visiting the Maltese Islands. Situated 5km North West of Malta, the Island of Gozo is the second largest in the Maltese Archipelago and is generally considered to be quieter and more rural than Malta. Starting point for the tour was the ferry port at Ċirkewwa in the north of Malta for the 25 minute Gozo Ferry crossing to Mgarr Harbour (pronounced Imjarr) on Gozo, passing close by to Comino (Kemmuna) the third largest island in the Maltese Archipelago measuring some 1.35sq miles with a population of just 4 full-time inhabitants. From Mgarr Harbour we headed to the outskirts of Gharb and the Sanctuary of Ta' Pinu, then onto The Gharb Folklore Museum before heading out to the coastal heritage site at Dwejra and the picturesque seaside village of Xlendi Bay (pronounced Shlendi). After lunch the tour resumed at the Ġgantija Temples of Xagħra with a quick stop off in the village of Fontana before finally heading to the Gozitan Capital City of Victoria (Rabat). ================================================================================ My 2008 vacation to the beautiful Maltese Archipelago was my fifth trip to Malta, so I utilised the knowledge from my previous trips to plan a packed itinerary of daily excursions that took me all around Malta during my eleven day stay – visiting most of the main sights and attractions by using public transport or trekking on foot off the beaten track - plus an organised sightseeing excursion to visit Gozo! If you are viewing this set because you are planning a holiday to Magnificent Malta I hope you find my photographs and information useful! :-) See where this picture was taken. [?]
